EVEN TOMORROW

EVEN TOMORROW

You know, the other day, after I talked to you, I walked along the usual street, but instead of that dead end there was a path.

I had never noticed it.

You know, another time, after talking to you, on my way home, I discovered that I had another room, bigger and brighter.

I had truly never seen it.

And yet I remember that what you told me burned on my wounds.
You didn’t believe in my “factory defects”.

You told me, with clear eyes, that I have responsibilities.
You didn’t comfort me.

I remember those words felt uncomfortable, but then I felt my shoulders lighten.

Having responsibilities means being able to choose.

So last night I chose to keep sadness and anger with me, and I went to sleep.

I left them warm, resting, like water and flour.

You know, today is a beautiful day.

Adriana Ferretti

“One day you’ll wake up and find that it’s a lovely day.

The sun will be shining and everything will be fresh and clean.

What once seemed impossible will seem simple and natural.

Don’t you believe me? I’m sure of it. And it’ll be soon. Perhaps even tomorrow.”

-F. Dostoevskij, “White Nights”.
