We are in October 2024 and I find myself writing a new contribution for this blog. It’s not easy to decide to shine a light on something considering everything that’s happening. What makes it more difficult is thinking about those we write for. This blog was born with the idea of being aimed at kids and always aims to receive contributions from younger people to continue and grow. The idea is to make the kids think and show them something invisible at first glance. But above all, our greatest aspiration is to propose to answer their questions. However, younger people don’t always have to act like us when they have a doubt or a problem and asking us is the last thing they think of doing. They’re not entirely wrong: it’s better not to ask than to be disappointed by an elusive, paternalistic answer or no answer at all. But I thought that the best questions are the apparently naive ones we asked as children when we “saw” the obvious that everyone pretended not to see. So I wrote the questions that younger people would like to ask older people. And when guys ask you a question they nail you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. You tell us that love is the key to everything, but have you normalized toxic and abusive relationships? How do you think we can trust \u201clove\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. How could you have ignored the signs of the climate crisis, inequalities and widespread malaise for so long? Did you really think that all you had to do was close your eyes and everything would resolve itself?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Why do you tell us that work will make us happy when you yourselves are slaves to a system that consumes and depresses you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. How can you ask for respect when you have ignored or minimized how we felt for years? Aren’t you ashamed of having taught us to hide pain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. Why do you judge us for anxiety and depression, when we grew up in a world that constantly puts pressure on us? Don’t you owe us an apology?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. You say you believe in the importance of relationships, but why have you raised us to compete, manipulate and distrust others? What model of society have you offered us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7. Why do you ask us to always be connected and hyperproductive, while you condemn those who rebel against the culture of “work until you die”? How long do you think we can hold without breaking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
8. Why do you tell us that education is the key to the future, but then we end up with useless degrees and zero job opportunities? Have you ever thought that maybe you are the one who doesn’t value what you teach us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
9. Why do you teach us to think critically, but then refuse to listen to science’s answers? How can you call yourselves “adults” if you don’t have the courage to face the truth? Is it easier to deny everything than to admit you were wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
10. If you had every chance to change things, why didn’t you? Why are you so weak that you can’t even imagine a future different from your past?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would be nice for this list to continue, there are never too many questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would be nice if every reader added a question to this list. What are your unresolved questions, the provocations that push you to seek answers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It would be nice to open a debate on these questions, to ask ourselves where the responsibilities of those who came before us and the possibilities of those who will come after us lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
